During the 57th TIFF, the legendary cinematographer Luciano Tovoli will present a masterclass on his artistic career, sharing with the audience experiences and moments from unforgettable films such as The Passenger, Suspiria, and many more.
 
CINEMA FOR ALL – ACCESSIBILITY IN TIFF FACILITIES & FILMS
The Thessaloniki International Film Festival, in collaboration with the Onassis Foundation and the Onassis Cultural Centre as accessibility sponsors, as well as the Movement of Artists with Disabilities as accessibility advisor, improves the accessibility of its facilities and shares the magic of cinema with all the viewers. These improvements begin in the 57th TIFF, regarding the Olympion theatre, the theatres and the Cinema Museum of Thessaloniki at the port, as well as the ticket box at Aristotelous square. In addition, two classic Greek films -The Ogre of Athens by Nikos Koundouros and We Only Have One Life by Yorgos Tzavellas- will be screened with audio description [AD] for the blind and visually impaired and SHD [Subtitles for the deaf and hard-of-hearing], while 17 Greek films will be also screened with SHD.

EXHIBITIONS
“Whispers”
November 4, 2016 – January 7, 2017
Contemporary Art Centre of Thessaloniki (Warehouse B1, port)
The exhibition “Whispers”,  initially   produced   by   and   presented   at   the   Museum   of  Contemporary  Art  of  Crete  last  October,  is  presented  as  part  of  the 57th TIFF’s sidebar events program, organized by CACT. TIFF introduces a channel of communication in regards to the works of the 25 artists from Greece, Europe and the USA presented in the exhibition, by inserting in CACT’s screening room the short film Hands: The Life and Loves of the Gentler Sex by Stella Simon and Miklos Bandy (1927-28, 13’). In addition, TIFF showcases inside the Olympion lobby the exhibition’s video installation Emergency Exit by Despina Meimaroglou (2004).
 
Photo exhibition #CedefopPhotoAward “Youth in education and training”

The 57th TIFF hosts the photographic exhibition #CedefopPhotoAward “Youth in education and training”, with the winning and shortlisted photos of the photo competition #CedefopPhotoAward, organised by Cedefop (European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training, www.cedefop.europa.eu). In the competition, which took place in two phases (the first ended on March, 16th and the second on September 11th, 2016), EU residents aged from 18 to 30 years old were invited to share their education and training experience through a photo. The photos will also be exhibited in Brussels during the European vocational skills week (5-9 December 2016). 
 
Photo exhibition “Faces and Spaces”

Nelly Tragousti’s photos prompt the viewer’s memory to recall faces and spaces from the time when Theo Angelopoulos was shooting in Germany, and mostly in Berlin, his last completed film The Dust of Time. In the foreground emerges the figure of the great Greek director: his face below the camera, his gestures while he talks, explains or guides his actors and associates. In addition, photos of the actors, the urban landscape and the settings are presented.

TIFF in collaboration with the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra and the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, presents “Music for Films”, featuring music by prominent composers such as Howard Shore, John Williams, Alexandre Desplat, etc, taken from famous films like Lord of the Rings, Schindler's List, Argo, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, etc. // Conductor: Martin Lebel, Violin: Andreas Papanikolaou.

The Thessaloniki International Film Festival continues its successful collaboration with the Thessaloniki-based Taratsa International Film Festival, by  presenting  6  short  films  that  have  been  awarded  during  the  3rd Taratsa IFF. This special screening that gives the audience a taste of summer cinema, will be held at the 5th floor of the city’s historical Hermion Hall. The screening will be followed by a party. Free entrance.
 
6 films chosen by the members of the Panhellenic Film Critics Association
On the occasion of its 40th anniversary, the members of the Panhellenic Film Critics Association voted for the best Greek and European films. The 57th TIFF presents 6 of them (3 Greek & 3 international), bringing to the big screen some of the most favoured films of all times.  
 
“Keimena”: A documenta 14 Film Program - Special Preview
Tuesday, November 8th, 17:00, Pavlos Zannas theatre
The 57th TIFF hosts a special event to preview the forthcoming weekly TV film program “Keimena”, dedicated to documenta 14, one of the most prestigious international exhibitions of contemporary art. Two films -Krisis by Dimitri Venkov and Voilà l'enchaînement by Claire Denis- that express the vision of documenta 14 and will be broadcasted as part of “Keimena”, will be screened in this year’s edition.
