With Kissavos in the background and facing towards the Aegean the municipality of Agia is the waterfront of the Larisa prefecture with a 36 kilometer coastline. It possesses not only geographical and natural diversity but also great historic and religious tradition.
From Stomio to Rakopotamos, the visitor can find the beach of his choice, while most of the beaches are equipped with lifeguards and water sports.
The area possesses rich flora and fauna. The forest in Polydendri with its 35 thousand acres is of vital importance. The municipality of Agia also possesses the wetland of the delta of Pineios river, which is formed on the estuary of the river. Part of the parkland of the Tempi valley as well as the parkland of Kissavos is also owned by Agia.
The historic and religious tradition of the municipality is rich as well. The first of the Magnites (Ancient Greek tribe) used to live here. Later the residents started cultivating silk and pigmenting yarns and trading it to Western Europe through organized companionships since the 18th century. Furthermore, in the settlements of eastern Kissavos, together with the home production, a development in seafaring was observed and the sailors of Karitsa and Melivoia became famous.
The apples, chestnuts and cherries of the area are of high quality and are sold all over Greece.
