Thymiana is one of the largest villages on the island with approximately 1600 inhabitants. The main places of interest in Thymiana are the nautical club, the elementary school, the Fatouros Garden and the church of Agios Efstratios. The ferruginous tufa, extracted from the local quarries, adorns the houses and the churches. It is a particularly known decorative material available in several tints of brown and red. "Mostra" is a local custom that takes place on Kathara Deftera (Ash Monday). The parades, the wagons and the redo of the war with the Turkish swords (hatzara), which depicts the Ottoman Empire, is one of the most fascinating spectacles on the island. Agia Ermioni, Megas Limnionas and Agia Foteini are located just 2km away from Perivolohori, beautiful beaches with crystal clear waters and ideal for a swim. Agios Minas Monastery is located on a hill, where thousands of Chians were slaughtered by the Turks in 1822.
