Just 13 km outside or more accurately above Volos, since it is situated at an altitude of 650 m, Portaria is at an advantageous position where through the green slopes of Pelion, it overlooks the clear blue waters of Pagasitikos. Being the main entrance to Pelion, it was the main road of commerce for the other 24 villages. Today it welcomes with its neoclassic mansions visitors to the area. In the summer it is ideal for lovely walks along the cobblestone-paved streets (kalderimia), but also amongst the beautiful surrounding nature. In the winter, dressed in white, it can be the starting point for the excursions to the ski resort of Pelion which is 12 km away.
