Chora, the capital of the island, is located 6km from Kamariotissa built amphitheatrically on the slopes of Mount Feggari. The view to the sea from any spot of the city will be committed indelibly to your memory, while the sunset, which rivals the famous sunset of Santorini, will enchant you with its colorations. Its cobbled alleys call to mind mountainous areas of Greece and are recommended for night walks, in which you will be accompanied by the music of young people playing their guitar. The Gattilusi Tower adds a nostalgic touch to the surroundings, while at the same time it contributes to its distinct beauty, especially at dusk, with the soft lighting heightening the place. The small two-storey houses with the wooden balconies and earthen terraces, though crammed close to each other, are built in such a way so as not to "cut" the sun from one another. Here you will find traditional restaurants where you can taste the famous stuffed lamb of Samothrace, coffee shops where traditional tunes will accompany the local "tsipouro" and tasty dainties, shops of handmade objects, a small gallery of paintings, the newly-formed Folkloric Museum and the church of the Dormition of the Theotokos. It is worth mentioning that Chora has been declared as a tenable traditional settlement since 1978.
