It is the island's most famous river, encircled by legends and folk stories about floods and drownings, after which it was also named. In fact, its sight is far from scary. On its green banks you can enjoy moments of relaxation, while it is also suitable for hiking. Along the river are formed waterfalls and lakes known as vathres. The first one, Gria Vathra, can be easily reached after a pleasant half-hour route. Things will start to come to a pretty pass if you want to visit the 2nd vathra, since you will have to climb uphill. However, your pain will be rewarded by reaching Klidosi, the 3rd vathra, in which end the waters of a waterfall (35m in height). At the river's mouth on the northern coast is located the homonym medieval tower, also known as Fonias Cape.
