In Karlovasi the visitors coming from the sea are warmly welcomed by a hill with pine trees and thymes of a great scent. If you come by car, on the seaside road you will see a stone chair facing the sea. This is the chair on which the famous Greek poet Giannis Ritsos, who spent a big part of his life in Samos, used to gaze at the turquoise waters of the Aegean Sea.
The brick buildings still standing at the entrance of the city are the remnants of the time when tanneries flourished in the city until the late 19th century. While walking around this town, except for the beautiful square, you will also find many neoclassical buildings such as the University, the Porfyriada, the Primary School and many residencies.
The area Potami is located just outside Karlovasi, with a beautiful sandy beach and the famous Waterfalls. Three small successive waterfalls flow within a lush landscape that you will reach after 1.5 kilometers of walking in an easy hiking track decorated by high trees.
