Easter: A perfect period to pass a few days of relaxation in the island, when everything will be blooming, there will be many waters in the springs and the vegetation will be overflowing.
July – August Wine festivals: Wine festivals are held annually in different parts of the island. In the village Pandroso (or Arvanites, according to the locals), near Pyrgos, a wine festival takes place in the village’s square usually a few days after the 15th of August. Visitors can buy a souvenir clay mug and fill it as many times as they wish with Samian wine (sweet or dry) for free. A wine festival is also held in Vathi, which is usually accompanied by musical concerts.
August
6th of August: It not just a religious festival, but it also has local characteristics. During the 1821 Greek Revolution, Samians won the Turks in a sea battle on the 6th of August 1824. The Turks tried to conquest the island for more than a month, with continuous and repeated attacks and invasions, which were repulsed by the Samians. Many of the Samian fighters had no access to drinkable water, because only salty water was coming out of the nearby spring. But during the specific days, drinkable water started flowing from the spring, which was considered to be a divine help. An inscription in the church of Sotiras in Pythagorio says: “JESUS CHRIST SAVED SAMOS ON THE 6th OF AUGUST 1824”. So every year the port of Pythagorio gets crowded with people who want to watch the reenactment of the battle. They burn a boat following a specific ritual and after that, sparklers lighten the sky.
15th of August: The Feast of the Panagia (Virgin Mary). Festivals are held in many areas of the island, mainly in Pyrgos, at St. Constantine, Kokkari, the Kosmadaioi, in Chora and Vourliotes.
Iraia-Pythagoria: The festival takes place in August, with many interesting artistic events.
“Manolis Kalomoiris” Festival: It is held in Samos in August, with many musical, theatric, artistic and other events, dedicated to the great Samian composer Manolis Kalomoiris.
Iraion Rock Festival: A three day festival for rock music lovers, which usually takes place in August in Iraion.
