Samos mainly produces olive oil, wine and honey.
The olive oil of Samos is of exceptional quality and actually the olive groves dominate the landscape of the island. Viniculture and wine production is also developed. In some villages you will even have the luck to see the old traditional wine presses, which nowadays serve as a museum. However, some producers still use them to produce their varieties. The majority of the island's wine growers cooperate with the Samos Union of Vinery Cooperative, where they "deposit" their crop every year.
The honey of Samos has a special taste and flavor, with dense texture and dark color, because of the rich vegetation of pine trees and thymes. You can buy good and pure honey directly from a beekeeper during your visit in a village of the island.
Local recipes
A traditional dish of Samos is the stuffed goat, particularly on the Sunday of Easter, but very often on the 15th of August. Another traditional recipe is the so-called "giaprakia with flowers", the flower of zucchini stuffed with rice. Other favorite recipes are also chickpea balls and pancakes, salty with grated cheese on the top or sweet with honey and cinnamon.
