Located at approximately 55km south of Rethymno, it developed from the very start into a busy summer resort. The village built on a hill and at different levels was loved in the 60s-70s by hippies and many others, who keep visiting it until now. The legend says that Daedalus and Icarus took off from Agia Galini and, therefore, a monument has been built in the village. According to tradition, its name derives from a Byzantine Princess, who built a church in the area when she was saved from a tempest and named it Panagia Galini (Virgin Mary Serenity), which was later renamed Agia Galini. The intense tourist development of the settlement will provide you a comfortable and well-organized holiday. It is a suitable place for families, since all the amenities are provided as far as the accommodation and dining are concerned. From the harbor of Agia Galini depart tourist boats that will take you to beaches like Preveli and Agios Pavlos.
