The Carnival of Rethymno: The Carnival of Rethymno with the disguised dolphin as its trade-mark is kept alive mainly due to the enthusiasm of the local population. Hundreds of volunteers, organized in different thematic groups, build patiently floats and costumes and surge in the streets for the customary “Hunt of the Lost Treasure”. It is one of the most popular carnivals in Greece, which is gaining more and more participants and visitors every year.
Renaissance Festival of Rethymno: A festival, which was established in Rethymno in order to preserve the memories from the years of the Venetian Empire, has become an institution since 1987 onwards. The thematic events that unfold throughout the summer include musical and theatrical performances related to the Renaissance. This festival is the center of attraction for both Greek and European visitors.
