The southernmost edge of Europe is Gavdos, a beautiful island that still preserves tracts of wild nature, undisturbed by the developmental tendencies of modern man. It features steep rocks with the unique Lighthouse above them on one side, and cedar beaches on the other. The basic settlement is at the Castri where the few residents of Gavdos stay. After Castri we find Sarakiniko, a beautiful and well-organized beach when compared to the rest of the virgin island. There and at the tavernas of Agiou Ioanni, one can “reboot” while staying in Gavdos. Once the path from Agios Giannis towards the beach begins, civilization ends. Only nature exists, in its comeliness, simplicity and freedom. Conventional time stops there so make sure you are well-prepared and equipped with the necessities. There will be nothing but cedar forests and sea, mountains of sand and rocks to explore. Don’t forget to pick up your garbage when leaving and try not to disturb the cedars, your hosts during your stay.
