Every year, several fans of paragliding (parapente) come in the district of Chania to enjoy the sky overlooking the magnificent Cretan land. The spots used for take-off are:
1. Omalos Plateau, 45km from the city of Chania. A magical flight from Kallergis in northwest-west direction over Samaria Gorge and Gkigkilos.
2. Falasarna over the ancient city in west direction.
3. Askyfou Plateau
4. A unique flight over the Kournas Lake in north-northeast direction.
5. In Varypetro overlooking Lefka Ori and Agia Lake.
6. Elafonisi, facing south and overlooking the Libyan Sea and Elafonisi.
8. Paleochora, facing south, a flight over Paleochora and overlooking the Libyan Sea.
