An ambulatory route of average duration links Olympi with the quite remote, relating to the rest of the Mastihohoria, location of Mesta. It is considered to be the most well-preserved medieval village, while its defensive structure resembles Olympi and Pyrgi. Mesta and Pyrgi are marked down on a map dated from 1422 that confirms the date of its construction. The Genoans had a great influence on its structure and the dark stone-built alleys, known as tholoi (domes), which have remained intact till today. The complicated streets and the sinuous routes used to slow down the enemies, while, nowadays, awe the visitors, who want to experience the entire history of the village. In Mesta, a monumental place with natural beauty, you can admire Taxiarches, the largest temple in Chios, the Militas Tower and the secluded beaches Salagonas and Apothika. Do not miss the chance to taste the local specialties in the taverns, located near the port, overlooking the sea and gathering your strengths to continue your walk.
