The Chian delicacies are an extra reason for visiting this diachronic island. You should definitely taste mastelo (a mixture of bovine and goatish cheese which is a bit spicy), cheese made by the old-fashioned way, fried ntomatopitaria (pies with sun-cured tomatoes), avgokalamara (omelet staffed with minced meat), whitebait pies (begoto), hare, groats and meat with quince. Fruit and vegetables, such as mandarins, morello, juicy cherry tomatoes and eggplants, are exceptional Chian products. You should definitely taste the prototypal liqueurs and anything that has mastic as an ingredient. Spoons sweets (fig, eggplant, date etc.), several flavors of jams and griddle -cakes will definitely satisfy your palate! Pastelia (honey baked with sesame), ipovrixia (vanilla with water), halva pies (a confection), chewing gums, almond toffees and kourkoubinia (a syrupy sweet) will carry you away with the scent of mastic. Do not forget to taste the local inspired yogurt scented with mastic!
