Imerovigli dominates the highest point of the caldera, with a view to Firostefani, Fira, the islands of the volcano, Ia, and, of course, Skaros and the caldera. Its unique position is also the reason it brings together some of the best hotels and caved villas on the island. Maintaining the traditional Cycladic architecture with the unique architectural features of Santorini (caved houses), it is a settlement with a tranquil atmosphere, ideal for those who wish a relaxing vacation. One of your afternoons or early in the morning, it is worth going down the path towards Skaros and its castle, where you can enjoy the magnificent view of the sunset and the church of Panagia (Virgin Mary), the "Theoskepasti" (meaning ‘who is covered by God’), which is perched on its rocks. On the steps you will also see the church of Agia (St.) Theodosia, the protector of castles, a tradition that has its roots in Agia Theodosia of Constantinople and the fall of that city. Walking around the village you will find the church of Agios (St.) Georgios, with a view of the entire caldera and the Monastery of Agios (St.) Nikolaos. The preserved traditional settlement is approachable by ascending the path of the caldera which begins in Fira, crosses Firostefani and ends in Imerovigli. Imerovigli is also the beginning of the old, unique path which used to connect Apano Meria (meaning 'Upper Side'), Ia, with the island’s capital before the construction of the road.
