A settlement, which was established in 1880 and in less than a century and a half it has seen great mining prosperity. Then it declined and today it has started experiencing another kind of prosperity, touristic prosperity. During the period of mining prosperity the settlement was full of life, then it was deserted, and today it receives visitors who want to enjoy the beach of Megalo Livadi and to explore the facilities of the mines. The characteristic images include loading stairs, wagons, railways, and iron ore mining tools that stand firmly in time. At the beach the neoclassical Headquarters as well as a monument dedicated to the miners’ strike are located. If you move ahead, after the metallic stair, you will find the two rooms of Loutra (Baths), where once Groman, the director of the mines, used the thermal baths as a therapeutic method, since lukewarm thermal water was streaming at this point.
