Mount Saos is the highest mountain in the Aegean Sea (over 1600m in height), which impresses the visitor with its largeness. It was named after its height, since the pro-Hellenistic word "Samos" means height, while it is also called Feggari (Moon); as, according to tradition, the mountain is so high that it hides the moon. On its slopes one can enjoy the endless forests of platans, which are favored by the running waters. While climbing up the mountain, the visitors can rest next to the famous vathres (lakes), the natural pools formed by the waterfalls, and bathe in their waters. The view is magnificent and the ascent, although difficult, is an experience of a lifetime. Furthermore, the mountain is the center of attraction for hiking clubs, but it can also be visited by beginners, at least up to a certain point, following the congruent routes and always consulting a mountaineering map. The hiking routes start from Therma or Chora and the ascent lasts around 5 hours.
