Although the Larisa prefecture has its own mythology, high mountains, Pineios river and many more beauties it is not among the most famous touristic destinations.
Capital of the prefecture is Thessaly’s biggest city, Larisa that has become modern, busy and is ran by a river, something quite unusual in Greece.
Depending on the time of the year, your visit can be combined with the different customs that are still kept such as the emotive Bourani that takes place every Great Monday in Tyrnavos or with a wine and tsipouro (local drink, similar to ouzo) festival. Typical for the Greek province is, once again, its rich natural environment. You can visit Olympus and Kissavos, gaze the Tempi valley between the two mountains or even try the prefecture’s beaches.
