Skyros is nevertheless wonderful, especially when combined with sports and the colors of spring. The reason for a trip up there is the conduct of preliminary races of UCI WORLD CYCLING TOUR on May 22th – 24th.
The company ‘Sports Tours Hellas’, with the support of the Municipality of the island of Skyros, are in the pleasant position to announce the holding of a qualifier UWCT event, on May 22th – 24th on the island of Skyros. The races will be held under the UCI and Hellenic Cycling Federation regulations.
The first race is a 21,2km long time trial. The second one is 115km long (60km for the ‘experience’ participants). The event will offer results in different age groups. The age groups will be as following: 19-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65+ both women and men, according to the UWCT regulations. At the end of each race, the first 3 athletes of each age group will be awarded. Entry to the 2015 Aalborg Denmark World Championship will be granted to the 25% of riders from each age category from both official races.
Entry to the race is allowed to the riders who possess
- a day license (open category riders) according to the regulations of the National Federation.
- an elite or master license with the exception of:
- Any rider who has, during the current year, been a member of a team registered in the UCI.
- Any rider who, during the current year, has taken part in a world championship, in the Olympic games, in a Continental championship or games, in regional games, in the Commonwealth games, or in a World Cup. The masters’ events are not subject to this restriction.
- Any rider who scored UCI points in 2015.
I. SKYROS CYCLING CHALLENGE - UWCT Individual Time Trial
Date: On Friday 22th May Distance: 21,2km Start: 15:30 Site: Linaria Port.
Race Features: Riders start in one minute gaps. During the race riders must respect the UCI regulations. The participants must not use timekeeping chips. According to the UCI rules, athletes are not allowed to have their own technical support or escort! The participation rights for the UWCT World Amateurs Championship will only be given for the 25% winners of each age category.
II. SKYROS CYCLING CHALLENGE-UWCT Road Race
Date: On Sunday 24th May Distance: 115 km Start: 09:00 Site: Linaria Port.
Before the road race event, a 1 km pre start will take place. The race includes a mixed terrain, with hilly, mountainous and short 70m ‘pave’ sessions. Men riders will make the whole distance according to the following age categories: 19-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59. For Men riders of the 60-64 and 65+ age categories and 50+ Women categories the distance will be 60km long. According to the UCI rules, athletes are not allowed to have their own technical support or escort!
III. SKYROS CYCLING CHALLENGE Road Race Experience
Date: On Sunday 24th May Distance: 60 km Start: 09:05 Site: Linaria Port.
Before the road race event, a 1km pre start will take place. The race includes a mixed terrain, with hilly, mountainous and short 70m ‘pave’ sessions. The course map can be accessed through the official website, www.uwct-skyros.gr. It is important to note that, for riders of this category, registration simultaneously guarantees medical efficiency. The use of helmet is obligatory. According to the UCI rules, athletes are not allowed to have their own technical support or escort!
