One of the oldest and most venerable shrines was located on the eastern coast of Attica, in Vravrona, in a small valley surrounded by low hills and the sea, between Erasinos, a torrent flowing even today. This is the place of worship of the Vravronia Artemis and Iphigenia, goddesses of childbirth and children, patronesses of women’s fertility and eutocia. In the premises of the sanctuary are preserved reconstructed parts of an arcade, the Arcade of Artemis, the ruins of the temple as well as other architectural remnants. The renovation works and the re-organization of the collections of the Archaeological Museum were completed a while ago.Findings from the sanctuary of Vravronia Artemis, the prehistoric settlement of Vravrona as well as featured findings from the wider region of Mesogia are displayed in the museum. The exhibition covers the period from the early Bronze Age to the Roman period. The set of the sculptures from the Temple of Artemis is considered to be the most important among its exhibits.
