On the northern side of the hill of the Acropolis, at the junction of the Prytaniou and Erechtheos Street, in a gorgeous garden with lemon trees lies the monastery of Agii Anargyri, also known as the Metochion of the Holy Sepulcher. The church of single-aisle basilica type was built in the 17th century and operated as a Catholic nunnery.Nowadays the monks' cells and the building of the Exarchate of the Holy Sepulcher are preserved. The masses in the metochion are always characterized by devoutness, except for the Holy Saturday noon, when the courtyard, the stairs and the surrounding streets are deluged by people for the reception of the Holy Fire, which is afterwards distributed to all the churches in Greece.
