On the southern foothills of the Acropolis are the remains of the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. It was built in 161 AD by Herodes Atticus, an Athenian citizen of Roman ancestry, a Philhellenist and votary of the arts, to honor the memory of his wife, AniaRigilli. It is open to the public till our days and every summer crowds of people enjoy excellent performances in the marble theater under the gaze of the Acropolis.
