Here, we refer to the new Acropolis Museum, which was inaugurated in 2009. Located at DionysiouAreopagitou Street across the Acropolis, it was designed with glass exterior walls so that the visitors would be able to see Acropolis from almost all its premises. The entrance to the museum is impressive, since the visitor, while walking onto a glass floor, can see underneath the ongoing excavation where a part of the city that was inhabited from the Archaic till the Early Christian era is gradually revealed. The visitor starting from a tour in everyday life will walk above houses, baths, drinking fountains and stone paved courtyards to find himself on the last floor of the museum, where the remains of the great moments of Athens are displayed. The exhibits of the museum are divided into 5 halls-sections dated from the 4th till the 5th century BC. Among the numerous works, you will have the opportunity to admire statues of the archaic period, the Caryatids and of course the most important exhibit of the museum, the Hall of the Parthenon. The frieze has been placed in the building in such a way that it occupies a space, which is the same size with the Parthenon Cella. So the whole decoration is displayed as a one-piece work and the visitor can better understand the history depicted on the figurations. However, the absence of parts of the frieze is quite evident, since they are housed in museums abroad.
