Access

By boat: The island is accessible by ferry boat from the port of Piraeus, and from Neapolis in the Peloponnese. The
schedule varies depending on the season. The access from Piraeus is not recommended since departures are infrequent, the ferry boats are kind of old and the journey long. The ferry boat rides from Neapolis are frequent and short.
Neapolis is located 356 km from Athens. The trip along the National Road from Athens to Corinth and Tripoli is 167 km. The remaining 189 km for the leg from Tripoli to Sparta and Neapolis is via the regional road network.
The KTEL bus from Laconia is also quite handy.
From Athens, whichever route you follow, the journey takes about 7 hours.
