Located in the northern part of the island, this picturesque village in the Peloponnesian style consists essentially of many small settlements built upon the surrounding hills, overlooking a forested ravine. Quench your thirst at of one of the famous local fountains, such as that of Amir Ali. Admire the beautiful architecture of the houses, even if some are deserted, and listen to the villagers speaking fondly of their island, their local pride shown in various cooperative projects. In Karavas you can sample many of the island's traditional products (Don’t be shy to buy some to take home as well!).

Even if you don’t choose Karavas for home base, it is definitely worth a stop while visiting the northern part of the island, towards the coastal settlement of Platia Ammos, located a few kilometers away.
