The islet of Hytra, or Avgo as it is known officially, is a natural attraction located just outside the port of Kapsali . The local name Hytra (literally, a pot) is derived from a natural phenomenon that occurs mainly in autumn, when a cloud sits just above it and stays there for several days, making the rocky islet look like a pressure cooker. The official name, Avgo, comes from its egg shape. It is one of the most impressive spots in the island, because of a magnificent sea cave. The underwater cave, steeped in myriad colors, is an attraction not only for tourists but also for seals who enjoy diving in the emerald – sapphire, blue waters. The steep and rocky inhospitable territory is decorated by the yellowish semprevivum, and is also a nesting falcon place. You can get there by a boat from Kapsali, whether scheduled or hired.
