The ancient city of Lefkada, which was also the capital, and according to historians and archaeologists it was the first city of Lefkada. It was abandoned in 1300, with continuous earthquakes scattering its traces. Its boundaries ranged from Kalligion to the north to the outskirts of the Karyotes settlement in the south and from the Koulmou mountain to the west till the east coast. The ancient city was protected by a wall of 4.5 kilometers long, which the inhabitants had reinforced with rectangular towers. Some parts of the wall are preserved even nowadays.
