The monastery of Ai-Giorgis in Skarous Alexandrou is considered to be the most remarkable architectural complex in Lefkada. It is built at the foot of the Skara forest, near Kolivata - about 1 kilometer outside the village - and has a wonderful view. It is one of the oldest and most historic monasteries on the island and was one of the richest. It was founded in 1611 AD, while some others place it even earlier, before 1500 AD. The eastern wall of the church with frescoes is of special interest, as well as the iconostasis which was created in 1724 AD and is a copy of the temple of Agios Minas located in the city of Lefkada. The temple celebrates on the 23rd of April at the feast of St. George.
