Leros is an island that honours its customs and traditions.

Traditional Wedding: On the top of Leros customs is the traditional wedding. Its preparation starts a lot of days earlier, when the bride’s relatives are gathered in her house and prepare the traditional dessert “pougia”, as well as the traditional drinks of Leros that are offered on the wedding day.

Easter: Easter is a big celebration for Leros and the night of the Resurrection a small war with fireworks takes place. On Good Friday in Platanos the processions of three epitaphs meet and compete on which epitaph will be held higher.

Traditional Feasts: The most famous traditional feasts in honour of some Saint are the following: St. Kyriaki’s Day in June that takes place on St. Kyriaki’s island across Panteli village, a two-day feast in honour of St. Marina on the 16^th and 17^th of July. On the 14^th and 15^th of August in Platanos is celebrating Panagia of Kastro and on the 26^th of August in Xerokabos is St. Fanourios day.
Another three festivals are also special on this island.

Wine Festival: In August lots of locals and visitors attend the big feast, where is offered plenty of food and wine.

Thrashing Festival: This festival takes place in the late June in Gourna beach. At the beginning of this event there is a representation of the threshing and then a big feast takes place with traditional music and plenty of food and wine.

Trawl Festival: This famous festival of the island takes place in Panteli. Fresh fish keeps arriving in the port, where it is grilled and offered to the visitors along with wine, always accompanied by the sound of traditional music.

Marine Sport Competition “Alida”: Except from the traditional feasts and festivals there are also cultural events that are organised on the island. The biggest one takes place during the first ten days of August and it’s the Marine Sport Competition “Alida” in the village of Alida followed by musical nights.
