International Dancing Festival of Kalamata: It is one of the most famous international festivals in the Mediterranean and has turned Kalamata into the capital of dancing. Lots of different events take place to show us the huge variety in dancing kinds. During the festival the spectators have the chance to learn how to dance as seminars, workshops and talks take place. Many Greek and foreign artists have supported this event since 1995, when it started with the help of International Centre of Dance in Kalamata.

Dartwar: A very special custom that dates back to the Turkish Occupation, takes place every Easter in Kalamata and Messini. Some of the locals, either dressed up traditionally or not, gather somewhere holding their darts, which are pipes full with powder. This custom takes place to honor the residents of Kalamata, who managed to defeat a group of Turks in 1821 with the help of these special darts.
On the 23rd of June , one day before the festival of Agios Ioannis Riganas, in the village of Kyparissia you will have the chance to taste the traditional “riganada”, which consists of slices of bread accompanied with oil, tomato and cheese.
Furthermore, in the village of Messini there is another traditional festival in September in the honor of Virgin Mary as a miraculous icon can be found there.
