It is difficult to describe the countless beauties of the island. It seems that the creator of this island had great inspiration, creating landscapes of unique beauty, variety and certainly using a large color palette throughout. A sense of extreme beauty! Colorful rocks, villages carved into the rock, whitewashed houses with painted doors and windows and numerous sculptures of nature. The residents having had such a source of inspiration in return created wonderful works of art including the unique statue of Venus de Milo.
The island's name comes from the pre-Hellenic word "Vilos", meaning sheep, which later evolved to the word Milo. In antiquity, Milos flourished because of its mineral wealth. It has been inhabited since 7,000 B.C. and very quickly became rich thanks to the obsidian black volcanic rock used by the Melians to make weapons and tools. With the descent of the Greek races from the North, the Dorians settled in Milo and at the same time began to build a new city, near the current city of Klima. During the Roman Era, Christianity appeared, remnants of which are the catacombs that have survived until today. During Venetian rulership and the subsequent Turkish and German occupations, the struggle of the Melians to regain their freedom was constant and intense.
On April 8, 1820, the famous statue of Venus de Milo which is now in the Louvre Museum in Paris was found in the field of a resident.
