Access

By car: Serres Prefecture belongs to the District of Central Macedonia and borders with the prefectures of Thessaloniki, Drama, Kavala and Kilkis, as well as with Bulgaria. The distance from Thessaloniki is short, around 85km, and you will need around one and a half hour to reach Serres, the prefecture capital. The distance from Drama is 70km, from Kavala 115km and from Kilkis 74km. Finally, the distance from Athens is quite large, i.e. 585km. The road network is quite good, since the prefecture is also connected with other regions through Egnatia Road.

By plane: There isn’t an airport in the prefecture and the best choice for you would be Thessaloniki airport with daily flights from all over Greece, as well as from the most foreign countries. You can take the bus 78 from the airport to the Buses station and from there reach Serres Prefecture.

By bus: The access to the prefecture is easy with Buses too, since there are daily itineraries to Thessaloniki, Kavala, Drama Kilkis and Athens. There are also itineraries for domestic transportations too, since this prefecture has more villages than any other Greek prefecture. By train: Serres has also a train station with daily itineraries that connect the city with Athens, Thessaloniki, Drama, Kilkis, Alexandroupoli, Komotini and Xanthi. The train station is in Sidirochori.
