King Thoantas: A myth connects Sikinos with the island Limnos. It is said that women of Limnos killed their husbands in one night in order to take revenge on them since they had been having affairs with women of Thrace during their raids. They even killed the male children for fear of revenge for the death of their fathers. Only Thoantas, the king, escaped with the help of Ipsipilis who hid him in a wooden ossuary and threw him into the sea. The waves led the ossuary to the island Oinoe. There, he married the nymph Niida, who gave birth to Sikinos. Sikinos, Thoantas' son and grandson of Bacchus and Ariadne, gave his name to the island during his reign.
