The temple which according to mythology was built by the Argonauts. It was located on the southeast coast. The monastery of Kato Panagias Kalamiotisas was later built on the temple’s ruins. One can still find the remains of parts of the walls and columns of the temple. The temple was the center of religious life of the ancient people. From inscriptions that were found it is believed that other gods such as Asclepius, Zeus and Aphrodite Ktisios were worshipped on the island. The political center (Kastelli) and religious center (the temple of Apollo) were connected by the Sacred Way, parts of which have been excavated.
