Falakro mountain belongs to Drama Prefecture and is the highest mountain of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, in a really short distance from Kavala Prefecture. Its highest peak is Profitis Ilias, at a height of 2232 meters while some other peaks are Chionotrypa, Koritsomagoula and Vardena. A mountaineering shelter is operating in the ski center of Falakro, which is located in the plateau of Agio Pnevma, at an altitude of 1720 meters. Unfortunately, during the last years there have occurred some problems that hindered the operation of the ski center. The known Gorge of Pyrgoi, which is a magic part of Falakro, is located on the south part of the mountain. Despite some difficulties you may face, you should try hiking or climbing up the bare mountain slopes.
