Rougoutsaria: This custom takes place on New Year’s Eve every year in the villages of Grevena prefecture. Two inhabitants of every village dress up as groom and bride and others with traditional costumes follow them. They wander from house to house singing carols and traditional songs. They get treats from every house and all inhabitants follow them ending up in the village square for a big party.
Gournochara (Pig Joy): Gournochara takes place the second day after Christmas in almost every village of the prefecture. It includes traditional music and dance and people offer plenty of wine, as well as “tsigarikia”, a dish made from pig fat.
Every August in all villages take place various cultural events with music and dance.
Mushroom Festival: This festival is one of the most famous events of the prefecture. It’s no coincidence that Grevena has been named as the capital of mushrooms. Every year, sometimes twice a year, during the summer months this festival takes place and mushroom lovers have the chance to try various mushroom dishes.
