The signs that lead you there have the inscription “School of Homer” and the site is not enclosed. However, on this location there are findings that prove that these huge, carved stones used to be the palace of Odysseus. At the start of the hill, near the first diggings, you can see the Melanydros Spring, where, according to Homer, Penelope’s servants came to carry water. In the site there are ruins of Mycenaean buildings as well as of the church of Agios Athanasios that was built on the ruins of the palace. Moreover, you will have the chance to admire some carved steps, rooms, parts of Mycenaean walls that nobody knows how they were built. Before you visit the palace, it would be advisable to take a look at the mockup in the square of Stavros as it will help you with your tour in the archaeological site.
