High up on the cliff and just outside Perachori there is a path that leads to the abandoned Paleochora of the Middle Ages. This settlement was the capital of the island during the Middle Ages and until the early Venetian era, when the residents moved towards the coast after the pirate raids were over. Between the ruins of the village you can see churches with byzantine wall paintings.
