Diocletian founded and fortified in the 3rd century AD a city that is located at Armenochori of Kastoria, to the northwest of Argos Orestikou. After the invasion of the Goths in the 4th century AD, when the city was destroyed, the efforts of reconstruction were unsuccessful and after the invasion of the Ostrogoths in the 5th century, the city declined completely. The ruins of some parts of the walls and some religious and secular buildings of the settlement have been excavated in Armenochori. Archaeological investigations indicate that in the 6th century AD, Emperor Justinian was the one that transferred the town a few miles to the north in a fortified position near the lake, which he called, for the first time then, Kastoria.
