It is located at the foot of Mount Vitsios, between the Prefectures of Kastoria, Florina and Kozani. More specifically, it is situated in a fertile valley below Kleisoura, hence the name of the monastery. It was built in the 14^th century and then reconstructed in 1813 and served as a male monastery and as a fortress during the Greek War of Independence that started in 1821. Today it is one of the protected churches of post-Byzantine monuments of Western Macedonia.
