Dragon Cave, the jewel of Kastoria, is located on the second kilometer of the lakeside road, just before the Mavriotissa Monastery. The entrance to the cave was discovered in 1954 and thanks to the diligence and care of the locals and the researchers, the cave opened to public in 2009. According to the legend, the cave was a gold mine, guarded by a dragon which breathed flames poisonous vapors.
Today, centuries later, the visitor has the opportunity to have a tour in the impressive interior of the cave. Ten rooms of various sizes, seven underground lakes and five corridors-tunnels will make you feel the protagonist in an Indiana Jones movie. The bones of a bear are some of the most important exhibits of cave and date back 10,000 years.
Opening hours: Tuesday-Sunday and holidays: 10:00-18:00 (summer season) 09:00-17:00 (winter season)
