This Mansion was built in 1879 in order to be the house of the tobacco merchant Dimitrios Tokos. It is the oldest building of Kavala and its architecture combines the romanticism and the eclecticism, two movements that flourished in 19th and 20th century Europe. The combination of neoclassical and baroque elements creates this unique building with the wonderful pediment on its roof. The Mansion is very important for the history of Kavala, as in 1929 Eleftherios Venizelos used it to give his political speech. Nowadays it houses the 12th Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities of the Ministry of Culture.
