The Municipal Museum of Kavala houses a variety of exhibits that include historical archives and documents, audiovisual and cinematographic material, traditional costumes, tools, everyday objects and other finds that present the traditions and civilization of the period from the 18th to the 20th century. Furthermore, it includes paintings, statues and other pieces of art of many local artists, as well as an exhibition of beautiful stuffed birds found in Nestos and Strymonas rivers.
Unfortunately, the Municipal Museum of Kavala was abolished in 2011 and substituted by the Public Benefit Organization of the City of Kavala (Dimofelia). The exhibition hall of the museum is closed to public due to renovation works and the Municipal Tobacco Warehouse houses the administration of the museum. It is worth mentioning that this place displays a variety of exhibits that depict the local daily life of a previous era. We hope that the museum re-opens its gates soon, as it is a true “shelter” of civilization and history.
