The Archaeological Museum of Philippi is located at Krinides, 16 km away from Kavala. It is built next to the Ancient Theatre of Philippi and is surrounded by the beautiful Basilicas and the Ancient Agora. The museum hosts exhibits from the excavations of the ancient city. There are finds dating back to the prehistoric period until the Roman Antiquity. Ancient inscriptions, statues, jewelry, coins and pots decorate the ground floor of the museum. On the first floor there are finds from the Christian city that date back to the time when it thrived until the time that the Turks conquered it and caused the abandonment of Philippi at the end of the 14th century.
The museum is accessible by bus from Kavala to Drama. You arrive at Krinides and walk up to the Ancient Theatre of Philippi which is close to the museum.
