Arkoudospilia (literally “cave of bear”) is situated in Galipso, Kavala, on the foot of Pangaio Mountain. It is a cave of many impressive rooms. Apart from the main cave, there is a narrow corridor with many crystals attracting visitors' attention. Inside the cave there are many ceramic shells which date back to the Bronze Age until the Roman Period. Many of them now belong to the Ephorate of Classical Antiquities. The human presence is proved by the words that have been carved on the cave walls. According to the legend, the cave is connected to long underground tunnels underneath Pangaio Mountain. The entrance is pretty small and in the beginning it is a bit scary for the visitors who have come to discover this place. However, once you enter you will stay speechless by the beauty of crystals, stalactites and well-shaped rocks that will give you a peaceful feeling. Visit Arkoudospilia and discover the hidden secrets of nature. The access is easy. After the village of Pangaio there is a dirt road which leads to a hunters’ camp by car. Then, just follow the path to the entrance of the cave.
