At the center of the island, the smallest village of Paros is located which was built during the Venetian period, at an altitude of 160 meters. It is obviously a ways from the sea, a fact that may be connected with its name (A costa= away from the beach). Some sources report that the name originates from the Latin word custodia, which means guard, something that is not impossible, if one should take into account that such a prominent position is an ideal lookout point. While walking in the alleys of the mountain village, visitors will observe large stone settlements and the only monument to the “big teacher”, Athanasios Parios, a prominent personality in Kostos. Before you leave, drink cold souma at the central café, which is ideal for summer nights.
