Ancient Kamiros flourished during the archaic and the Hellenistic period and was one of the most significant towns of the island. It is built amphitheatrically overlooking the sea without any sign of fortification. Ruins of houses, the ancient market-place (Agora), a Doric Temple, the ruins of the aqueduct and the ruins of the Temple of Athena were found among other findings.
