The Monastery Filerimou is located on Filerimos Hill and next to the ancient city of Ialysos. It is built on the ruins of the ancient temple of Athena Poliados and Zeus Polieas, on which an Early Christian basilica was originally built in the 5th century AD and, nowadays, only the cruciform baptistery is preserved. In order to reach the monastery of Panagia Filerimos, which is dedicated to Zoodochos Pigi (Life-giving Spring), you have to go up the great stone staircase to the east of the temple. Next to the baptistery mentioned above lies the church of Panagia of Gothic order. Just opposite the entrance of the monastery is located the so-called Calvary, i.e. the stone corridor, in which there are chalcographies representing the Passion of Christ, leading to the large cross, the landmark of the hill. Another important element of the monastery is the famous icon of our Panagia Filerimos, made by Luke the Evangelist, which is no longer in the monastery; it is hosted in the National Museum of Montenegro.
