The church of the Panagia tou Kastrou (Lady of the Castle) was built in the 11^th century and is the oldest and largest church preserved in the old town of Rhodes. At first, it operated as an Orthodox church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, then during the period 1309-1522 as a Catholic church named Sancta Maria Castelli Rodi, while it was converted into a mosque named "Enderum mosque" during the Ottoman Empire. Nowadays, it is maintained by the Archaeological Department.
